Happy ‘Merica Day

Even though ‘Merica Day was yesterday over here.

I realized quickly yesterday just how much I truly hate running on the treadmill. Our gym is pretty small and we’re “expeditionary” now so that means no TVs in the gym, no music, pretty much the only thing in there that’s automated is the fan (and thank goodness for that). I think I will be able to keep up my run streak, but finding the willpower to do anything much longer is going to be really, really difficult.

Fortunately, the gym is the only place I can go around here without needed a battle buddy. To go to the DFAC (dining facility) or even work I have to travel with at least one other person. All. The. Time.

I was feeling really down about all this until a coworker asked me if I’d be interested in doing a Danish Contingent March with her. I can’t tell you how much it meant to me to have something to train for out here, and supposedly there’s a half marathon in the fall at a base nearby that some of us will go to as well. It’s going to be difficult to train with the restrictions placed on us, I can’t even run outside by myself, not that there’s anywhere for me to run, but I’m so thankful to have something to look forward to.
